I spent most of my summer in Savannah at SCAD, I took Photography 100 and Drawing 100. I was able to learn so many new techniques and meet so many amazing people. I was able to grow in photography and expand my knowledge of drawing basics. I used lots of charcoal, a medium I have always feared and struggled with. Having to use charcoal for the majority of my projects helped me to change how I feel about them, and really get comfortable with the medium.
One of my favorite drawing projects that I did at SCAD, was a still life with a manikin that had a blanket draped over its shoulders, this was my most challenging project; I started with a few different sketches in my sketchbook and then drew what I saw for the final. This project helped me grow the most because I had to incorporate different textures into my drawing, and make sure I had strong shadows and highlights to show the texture of the blanket.
This summer I was also able to further my photography, I loved learning new techniques to shoot, and learning how to better edit my pictures. My favorite project I did for photography was a body image piece. For the body image project I photographed four of my friends shirtless, all with different body types, and put them together in a strip. The final was two boys and two girls in four separate black and white photographs. I loved this project because it has meaning behind it, I wanted the viewer to see that you can look different and still be beautiful, it doesn't matter if you're not muscular or if you have scars, or if you're short or tall, everyone is beautiful just the way they are,
Among all of the great projects I worked on this summer, I was also able to get a few done when I was home. I did the self portrait project, with acrylic paint... this project was not one of my favorites, i couldn't get the skin tone right, the paint kept drying too fast, and the person looked nothing like me. I was disappointed with this project, and will hopefully be able to do it again, but better. Then for the different perspective drawing I drew the stairs going up to my third floor, I enjoyed this project and was overall happier with the final product, perspective has always been hard for me, but when I spend time on it, I am always pleased with the final picture.
