For the mixed media piece we all had to work with our art one students, this was really cool because I was able to talk to her and learn about what she was interested in. We found that both of us really enjoy sculpture. While I had fun talking to her i also enjoyed working with her for this project, she had a lot of cool ideas, and was ready to try anything. The mixed media is really different from anything else I've done, since it's just layering different textures together. I like the composition of our piece as a whole, but when we used the view finder, to find the best composition I was even happier with our piece.
My second concentration please I also like, the perspective is pretty neat and not something that I've really done before. There's a lot going on in the background which is kind of cool to have instead of one color, and in the foreground I have some lipsticks. So far I've run into the same problems I have with the last one, the oils just need a long time to dry so I haven't been able to do much at a time. When oils overlap when they're wet they tend to mix making a gross muddy color so I have to make sure that everything is dry before I can overlap the things that I need overlapped and my paintings. This picture is also pretty cool in the sense of the colors that I'm using I have a red lipstick top and then a red lipstick container but then there's also a lot of black in it. I usually tend to go darker and my paintings, I really like a lot of the dark oil paints. I'll be able to write more about this project once I'm finished with it
For my concentration I decided to do still lives of make up that I have. I wanted to do things that represented me and I really enjoy makeup. I set up a few different scenes and got Mrs Rossi's help deciding which two I should paint first. The first one I painted was in a make up bag, I thought it had a really neat perspective since the view was looking into the bag. It had interesting lighting and I really like the texture that the bag had on the inside and I like the way everything in the bag was laid out. While painting I've run into a few troubles, since oils don't dry very fast and we need to get these projects done quickly I had to do more than I would have at a time with oils. I still wasn't able to finish the whole painting in time, but I'll be able to finish it when we get back. So far this is the only problems I've run into it this project, I really enjoy doing seems like this and the colors that I get to use also. It's out the two pictures that I have this one is my favorite so far, I like the contrast of the pink and the Prussian blue that I used to achieve the darks, I think that it gives a painting a really neat effect
For my landscape I painted a picture that I had taken a picture at Hilton Head, of the sun set, with boats and a light house in the background. I did struggle with this project since there was so much in the picture, and I ended up not adding everything that was in the original picture, but I really liked the end picture. The water was my favorite part because of all of the different colors in the water from reflecting the sunset. While I enjoyed doing this landscape I found that landscapes aren't my strong suit, and probably won't be doing many in the future.
For the pet portrait I didn't have and good pictures of my pets, so I decided to paint a puppy that I had seen at the Pet Pad. I used oil paints for this project, since oils are my strong suit. I had started off by drawing everything out on the canvas, but then realized it would be easier if I started painting. I didn't run into many problems while painting this piece, the colors went well together, and I made the background blue, and it ended up looking like a curtain, which gave the piece a home feel. Towards the end is when I started getting more frustrated, since I had put the puppy's body in, but it looked like a hat. I got help from Mrs. Rossi and Mrs. Sudkamp on how to make the body look like it belonged in the picture. I ended up having to darken up the body, which helped the over all look, I also added in a leg, so the body didn't look like a blob.
